If business could have kids as apprentices with us still paying them their dole money that would encourage the kids and give business, especially small business, the chance to expand and educate the kids into the bargain. Time off could be deductable from their dole money making sure they turn up and if they are good they could well be taken on fulltime in due course. One apprentice to one experienced senior would therefore keep alive the skills that we so dearly need.
