Rejected petition Supermarkets to donate the money they recieve from 5p bags to foodbanks
In the UK, around 13 out 65 million people are living in poverty; about 20% of the population. With an increasing number of people falling into the poverty, foodbanks require more donations to support and meet the needs of the people.
More details
Food poverty is the inability to to have an adequate and nutritious diet, often due to a lack of money. In the UK, someone is considered to be living in poverty if their household income is less than 60% of the median UK household income annually.
Foodbanks depend greatly on public donations to offer food and support services for those in need. Supermarkets donating the money they recieve from the 5p bags would increase the support foodbanks recieve, helping people overcome poverty.

Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
It's up to retailers to decide whether, and how, they wish to donate the money raised by the 5p plastic bag charge to charity.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
