Rejected petition Stop Uber cars in Guildford threatening the trade of the licensed taxis

All licensed Hackney Carriage and Private Hire drivers in Guildford undergo stringent knowledge tests in order to join the taxi trade and pay out large fees to Guildford Borough Council annually for licences and plates to comply with GBC terms and conditions.

More details

All licensed Guildford Borough Taxi's are fitted with meters whereby the tariffs are determined by GBC and cannot be tampered with by any driver, therefore all drivers charge the same amount per mile etc. Uber drivers on the other hand are not governed by the same principle and can charge whatever figure they choose. Uber therefore are undercutting the licensed drivers of Guildford and we the licensed drivers are now taking a considerable loss of earnings and work load is decreasing.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

We can't accept petitions which call on the Government to stop individual companies operating. That's not something that the Government or Parliament can do.

If you would like the Government to change the way in which private hire firms are regulated, to address the problems you are concerned about, you could start a petition about that.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
