Rejected petition Theresa May - Do NOT misuse the Brexit referendum result
The 23rd June U.K. Referendum on membership of the European Union asked one question; "Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union?" It was NOT "Should we the people of the UK give the Tory government permission to do what they like and abandon democracy?"
More details
The results of the referendum showed that a majority of 52% to 48% voted for the U.K. to leave the European Union. Although this is the will of the people it is not a mandate for the government to be the sole architect of the most significant change to this country in recent history. Yes the UK voted to leave the EU, however the means of doing so must be ratified by either a parliamentary vote or the will of the people via referendum for this is a democracy.
