Important:

This petition was submitted during the 2015-2017 parliament

Rejected petition Make it a legal requirement for motorists to inform police if they hit a cat.

Currently, if a motorist hits a dog while driving they must inform the police. The Road Traffic Act does not currently apply to cats meaning motorists can injure or kill cats without the necessity to inform anyone thus, in case of injuries, often leaving them to slow and preventable deaths.

More details

For the benefit of animal welfare and on compassionate grounds to cats and their owners, we the undersigned request that an amendment be made to the Road Traffic Act to the effect of the inclusion of a clause or similar legally requiring motorists to inform the relevant authority, should they hit a cat.
