Rejected petition Tell the BBC to have an occasional Pagan voice on Radio 4's Thought for the Day

Pagan voices are not represented on Radio 4's programme Today in Thought for the Day despite a mix of 6 other faiths regularly featuring.

While Pagan numbers are slightly smaller than Buddhism and Judaism, proportionally there should be one Pagan voice each year on the programme.

More details

The mix of speakers over the past 12 months does not reflect the mix of religions in the 2011 census.

Paganism and other Earth based religions are the 7th largest religious group in the UK representing almost 80,000 people.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

This decision is the responsibility of the BBC. The BBC is an independent body governed by a Royal Charter. Under the terms of that Charter, the BBC is operationally and editorially independent of Government and there is no provision for the Government to intervene in the BBC’s day-to-day operations.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
