Closed petition Prevent councils from moving homeless people into other areas without permission
Closed on
Private companies are buying up housing stock, evicting the tenants, then offering the properties to the local council as temporary accommodation for the homeless.
If the council says "no," the firm offers the properties to another local authority to move their homeless people into.
In Peterborough, a private firm evicted tenants and their families from 74 homes on a single estate then offered the properties to Peterborough City Council as temporary accommodation.
The firm told the council that if it did not take up the properties, they would be used by a London borough for its homeless people.
This practice is going on around the country and is causing misery for many people.
