Closed Repeal the ECA1972 with a commencement order attached.Notify European Council

Repealing the ECA1972 alone would breach the Vienna convention and the Lisbon treaty. A commencement order would allow the act to come into force at the same time as the conclusion of negotiations under article 50 and 218(3) of the Lisbon treaty. Therefore meeting our constitutional requirements.

The bill can reach royal assent to coincide with the governments policy to withdraw from the EU. When the bill becomes an act the government shall notify the European council of its intention to withdraw and begin negotiations on a withdrawal agreement. The Great repeal act can repeal this act later in the year.
