Rejected petition Stop telecommunications companies overcharging for services
Charges such as call set-up, caller ID display and call return cost companies little or nothing to provide yet customers have to pay.
BT, for example, charge £1.75 per month for caller display, 19p call set-up, and 26.5p call return
More details
For decades telephone companies have been charging customers for setting-up calls (as if this were done manually) even though exchanges are automated and computerised. Likewise some charge for caller ID and for returning a call along with other features which cost very little to provide.
Many of these charges are unreasonable.
BT's charges are a typical example https://www.productsandservices.bt.com/products/lib/pdf/BT_PhoneTariff_Residential.pdf

Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action. It's clear that you're concerned about telecoms charges, but it's not clear what action you'd like the Government or Parliament to take. You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do. For example, you could ask Parliament to set a maximum level for these charges in law.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
