The self employed can't afford to take time off, not just financially. If you stop being available for work your clients find someone else, you fall behind industry trends and your skills get outdated. Child care to the self employed is a must have business expense and should be tax deductible.

Sole traders are at the forefront of UK business growth, According to the government’s department of business, Energy & Industrial Strategy in 2016 there were 4.2 million non-employing businesses (which are basically businesses who do not employ anyone but the owner). They account for just under 76% of the overall business population. And 89% of the business population growth since 2000.

The self employed can not survive without child care and the UK can not survive without the self employed.
