Rejected petition Make it a legal requirement to have health/travel insurance to enter the country
The country loses £450million a year to non-residents using the NHS and not paying for their care.
By making sure everyone who enters the country has insurance the NHS will always be able to recoup the costs of care and further invest this money back into the NHS.

This would also stop individuals being landed with very high invoices that are unaffordable as the risk/bill will be shared across the insured community.
To go even further the government could advise and ensure that travel insurance is an optional extra when travel into the country is purchased. It would be very easy for airlines and other travel companies to give the option of adding travel insurance when paying for the fare online.
