Petition Legislate Against the Selling or Gifting of Customer Details

Nearly all companies offer to "send me details of products and offers from third party organisations recommended by [the company]".

While it's very nice of them to offer this, the onus should be on the customer to sign up to these other companies, rather than our details be sold on for profit.

Let's face it, nobody wants their details sold or gifted to another company only to be written to and persuaded to purchase other goods or services that are by and large unwanted.

This legislation would eradicate the many double-negative tick boxes when forced to create accounts online and ultimately help individuals know EXACTLY which companies have their details.
