Rejected petition Stop plans to raise university tuition caps above current levels of £9k/year
The Department for Education trebled university tuition fees (from £3k/year to £9k/year) in 2012 and are now considering a fee rise to £13k/year and, ultimately, removal of caps altogether.
More details
In 2012, the Coalition government implemented a threefold increase in tuition fees. Tuition fees are set to increase to £13k/year, with proposed alternatives of "fast-track" degrees in place as an alternative.
Experience in the US has shown that, even with marked fee increases, universities struggle to make ends meet, investing in campus amenities and non-teaching roles rather than the core teaching students need.
