Rejected petition Don't use EU nationals living in the U.K. as bargaining chips in Brexit talks

You have it in your power to guarantee the residency rights of EU nationals today. Please do so immediately.

Those living here are people - parents, partners, friends, colleagues - who contribute hugely to our society. Don't treat them as bargaining chips. It is unnecessary and unfair to do so.

EU Nationals living here have not been guaranteed automatic rights to stay since the referendum.
The only way to gain citizenship is to fill in the 85 page long permanent residency form which asks detailed questions about one’s life in the UK since arrival. Large numbers of permanent residency applications are currently rejected. If your application is rejected you get a letter from the home office telling you to prepare to leave. No EU country is doing this to British citizens living there.
