Rejected petition Bring back stop and search in London

Too many people are getting stabbed in London and knife crime is getting out of hand, they took away stop and search in London and now people think it's okay to carry knives. That's somebody's child in danger, it's not acceptable. Bring back stop and search.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

We can't accept your petition because the issue you raise is not the responsibility of the Government or Parliament. The use of stop and search in London is an operational decision for the Metropolitan Police Service, which is the responsibility of the London Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC). MOPAC is overseen by the London Assembly.

The London Assembly has its own petitions process. You can find out more about how to petition the London Assembly here:

https://www.london.gov.uk/about-us/london-assembly/petitions

In any case, it appears that the Metropolitan Police are still using stop and search. You can find out more on their website: https://beta.met.police.uk/advice-and-information/stop-and-search/

You can also contact the Metropolitan Police here: https://beta.met.police.uk/contact-us/

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
