Important:

This petition was submitted during the 2015-2017 parliament

Rejected petition Require accuracy in any public statement of the Brexit result by MPs or Peers.

The term 'the will of the people' is misleading and dishonest when used to describe the referendum result and should be forbidden. Only terms which accurately reflect the balance of the vote should be used. e.g. 'the will of a large minority/37.5% of the electorate.'

More details

37.5% of the electorate favour leaving the EU;
34.7% favour remaining;
27.8% did not vote
62.5%, a large majority, did not vote to leave
Opinion is divided and there is no settled will in this matter. There is no majority in favour of leaving the EU. A large minority wish to do so; a similar but slightly smaller minority wish to remain. The majority of the electorate did not vote in favour of leaving.
