Rejected petition Increase Employment of Those with Learning Disabilities
To do this, allow the exemption of those with learning disabilities from the minimum wage.
More details
There are 1.4 million people in the UK with learning disabilities, 1.3 million of whom are currently unemployed. The main barrier for people with learning disabilities getting into work is the increase in the minimum wage. Exemption from this would break down the barriers they face to employment. Allowing them the social and health benefits that come with work. This is not about the right to a minimum wage but about the right to have a job.
This petition was rejected
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
We're not sure whether you would like employers to be exempt from paying the minimum wage to people with learning disabilities, or whether you would like people with learning disabilities to be able to choose not to receive the minimum wage.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
