Rejected petition STOP BRENT LIBRARY CLOSURES
More details
Stop Brent library closures and hold a public inquiry.
Restore the full library service until this is carried out.
The council's decision to close half (6 out of 12) of its local libraries is in breach the Libraries Act 1964, as Brent Council will fail to provide a “comprehensive and efficient” library service for people who “live, work or study” in the borough because:
1. The council has failed to make a proper assessment of local needs in respect of its library services
2. The council has not satisfactorily addressed the specific needs of older people, disabled people, unemployed people and those living in deprived areas
3. The proposed cuts will hit some groups of people in Brent harder than others, especially young people
4. The council has not had proper regard to the needs of the borough’s children
5. There is a lack of logic around why some libraries were recommended for closure and not others
