Rejected petition Do not spend £500 million on the reintroduction of blue passports

Following the country's departure from the EU, we feel that the reintroduction of blue passports is an irresponsible use of public money, especially as we have no new trade deals at this time.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

The UK passport is routinely redesigned every five years to guard against counterfeiting. The Government is launching the procurement process now to ensure there is sufficient time to produce and design UK passports from 2019 when the current contract ends. The contract covers design, print, assembly and personalisation of passports.

We're not sure whether you would like the UK passport not to be redesigned at all, including to protect against counterfeiting. You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.

You can find out more about the procurement process for the new contract here:

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
