Rejected petition Sell Gibraltar to Spain, and with the money, the Government should fund the NHS

Promises were made by UK MPs that leaving the EU would free up money that we could fund the NHS with instead. Art50 means that Gibraltar will be contested by Spain.

Instead of contesting it, lets sell it to Spain. With this money, we can fund the NHS.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

Whether Gibraltar remains under British sovereignty is the responsibility of people of Gibraltar, not the UK Parliament or Government.

In a referendum in 1967, 99.6% of the Gibraltar electorate voted to remain under British sovereignty. In November 2002 Gibraltarians voted on a UK proposal to share sovereignty of the Territory with Spain, and 98.5% rejected this proposal.

The right of all peoples to self-determination is one of the core principles of international law and it is the responsibility of all states to ensure that this right is realised. The obstruction or violation of this principle constitutes a very serious violation of international law.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
