Rejected petition Cheaper prices on public transport

The prices on public transportation (specifically busses) keep rising in prices.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. The price of tickets on public transport, including buses, is the responsibility of local transport authorities and transport operating companies.

While the UK Government and Parliament do not directly set the price of tickets on public transport, the Government can set the rate by which transport authorities and companies can raise some ticket prices. You could start a new petition calling on the Government to change this rate, or a petition asking for other changes to the way in which public transport fares are set.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
