Petition END UNFAIR EARLY PENSION BENEFITS, to reduce austerity cuts
More details
The Labour government brought in a system in which long-term unemployed are “retired” several years early (presumably to reduce the official unemployed total) but, as Pension payments are roughly double Jobseeker’s Allowance (please see figures at end), this system very unfairly & substantially rewards long-term unemployed at taxpayers’ expense.
THIS UNFAIR SYSTEM IS STILL USED & NEEDS TO BE STOPPED.
weekly figures, correct as at Oct. 2011:
Jobseeker’s Allowance = £67.50 [under-25s £53.45, couples £105.95],
State Pension = £102.15 [couples with only 1 lot of NI contribs. £163.35],
Pension Credit, Guarantee Credit tops up pensioners’ incomes to £137.35 [couples £209.70].
For retirees over 65 with savings &/or private pension/s,
Pension Credit, Savings Credit can top-up their income by up to £20.52 [couples £27.09] on top of private incomes of up to £188 [couples £277].
All figs. plus, if applicable, Housing Benefit [for rent or mortgage interest] & Council Tax Benefit
