Rejected petition Offer protection of vulnerable debtors in Taking Control of Goods Regulations

Taking Control of Goods National Standards contains guidance for Enforcement Agents when dealing with vulnerable debtors - this guidance is unclear and results in vulnerable people being exploited unnecessarily and new Regulations to clarify this should be debated by Parliament

More details

Guidance on enforcing debts against debtors in vulnerable situations contained in the Taking Control of Goods National Standards, issued by the MOJ in April 2014, does not go far enough to protect those individuals. Enforcement Agents and their Creditors do not take steps to protect such individuals, as is clearly required in the Standards, and Parliament should debate this issue with a view to clarify requirements and issue legally enforceable Regulations to protect those individuals.
