Rejected petition Refer Greater Manchester Police to the Independent Police Complaints Commission

A 999 call was made to police about an attempted online grooming at around 8.20pm on Sunday 24 September 2017.

The informant told the call handler they were outside the address of a man who had attempted to groom what he believed to be a 12-year-old girl. They refused to act immediately.

When it was established that this was a decoy and a child wasn’t at immediate risk, the informant was advised to leave the location and make an official report to police in order for intelligence to be gathered and the appropriate action to be taken.

Any sexual offences against children whether attempted or actual should be investigated as a matter of urgency and if a member of the public requests assistance this should be provided not simply advised to go away and make a report.
