Rejected petition e-petition debates in parliament cannot invoke the party whips

More details

Any e-petition that reaches the 100,000 limit and is debated in parliament cannot be subject to the party whips. In these cases MPs are to listen to the electorate, uphold the principles of an adequate democracy, debate the issue and be afforded a "free vote". MPs are not permitted to put party loyalties before their electorates in these debates.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

Whipping is a matter for political parties and not HM Government

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
