Rejected petition Make Emotional Support Animals Available in the UK
Emotional support animals are currently not available to people in the UK. The can provide people who suffer from mental health issues (such as anxiety/depression) a great deal of care and support on a 24/7 basis, that they would not necessarily get from anywhere else.
More details
Countries such as America already have a system for Emotional Support animals implemented within their Service Animal system. Emotional support animals have been known to assist disabled individuals with severe depression, generalized anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and many other emotional and psychiatric disabilities. These animals need no specific training and are therefore of no cost to the government but may change the life of a person granted permission to keep one. They provide therapeutic benefits to people with mental health disorders through companionship. This petition was rejected
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
Provision of emotional support dogs is not the responsibility of the UK Parliament or Government.
You could start a new petition asking the Government or Parliament to take action on something that they are responsible for. For example, you could start a new petition asking Parliament or Government to change the definition of assistance dogs in the Equality Act to include emotional support animals, if that's what you'd like to happen.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
