In the light of the Government plans to construct a High Speed Rail line through the Chiltern Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty I, and the signatories to this petition request that the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs ensure primary and secondary purposes of AONB designation are upheld and as a result the preferred route is amended to pass outside the Chiltern Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or better still that the plans to construct HS2 are abandoned.

The primary and secondary purposes of AONB designation are;
• To conserve and enhance the natural beauty of the landscape
• To meet the need for quiet enjoyment of the countryside
• To have regard for the interests of those who live and work there.
