Rejected petition Should The Minimum Wage Be Increased To Match The Average Cost of Living?
I am creating this petition as a GCSE citizenship student looking to take action, as required in the specification, to get the minimum wage raised.
The minimum wage has been increased in recent years, however it is still not enough money for people to have a decent living.
More details
For a person working 8 hour shifts, 5 days a week, all year round they would earn £15600. Yearly cost of living = £18180. Average weekly shop = £53.20 (Approx 1/6 of weekly income). Annual cost of running a 2001 Renault Clio = £2500 (on top of cost of car). Amount of people using food banks have increased. According to www.trussellgroup.org - their services fed 1,182,954 people (2016-2017), where as in 2015-2016 they fed 1,103,309 people.

Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do. For example, you could ask for the national minimum wage to be increased to a specific amount.
You can find out about the current rates here:

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
