Rejected petition Increase penalties for anyone that allow their dog(s) to attack other dogs

After the horrific attack on a Beagle in a public space that led to the dog's death, it's time to make owners or those tasked with supervising the dogs accountable for the behaviour of those in their charge.

More details

Too often the dog is penalised with the ultimate sanction of being euthanised and the owner or responsible person in charge is simply handed a caution or fine. It's time for the human on the end of the lead to be held to account for the actions of the animals in their care.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

It's already against the law for someone to allow a dog to be out of control in a public place. This could include allowing their dog to attack another animal. You can find out more about this here:

https://www.gov.uk/control-dog-public

The owner can get an unlimited fine or be sent to prison for up to 6 months (or both) if their dog is dangerously out of control. They may not be allowed to own a dog in the future and their dog may be destroyed.

You can find out how to report a dog here:

https://www.gov.uk/control-dog-public/report-a-dog

We're therefore not sure what additional action you'd like the Government or Parliament to take.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
