Rejected petition Reconsider releasing John Worboys from prison.

John Worboys is a sex offender, convicted of 19 crimes in 2009. Since his sentencing more women have come forward & it is now suspected there may be more than 100 victims. He has spent 10 years in jail, this is not enough. He is still a danger to the public & should remain confined to jail.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

This isn't something that the UK Government and Parliament can do.

Decisions about releasing prisoners into the community are taken by the Parole Board, which is independent. The Government and Parliament can't change the Parole Board's decision.

You can find out more about the Parole Board, and read its statement about this decision, here:

The Chair of the Justice Committee, the group of MPs that looks at the work of the Ministry of Justice, has said that he is going to recommend that the Committee asks the Chair of the Parole Board to give evidence about what has happened.
