Rejected petition Make the investigation of any cases of FGM mandatory by the police.

Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is the deliberate, ritual removal of some or all of the external female genitalia. Such acts have been illigal in the UK since 1985 under the Prohibition of Female Circumcision Act 1958 yet there have been no convictions and only one unsuccessful prosecution.

More details

According to figures released by NHS Digital for the period April 2016- March 2017, there were 9000 recorded visits to hospitals and GP's in which FGM was a factor.
