Rejected petition Legalise same-sex marriage in Northern Ireland.
How can we say that we have equal marriage in the United Kingdom when part of the United Kingdom still denies equal marriage to LGBT couples?
Marriage has always been an evolving institution. Without evolving, we would not have the option of divorce.
More details
Civil marriage, for LGBT people, in Northern Ireland has been on hold too long. We cannot call ourselves a country that respects equality yet denies this right to people. This is a disgrace. We must put pressure on the government to make LGBT marriage legal in Northern Ireland. We cannot allow this government to shame our country by blocking this human right.

Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
Marriage is a devolved matter in Northern Ireland. That means that it is the responsibility of the Northern Ireland Assembly.
You could start a new petition calling on the UK Government and Parliament to take back this responsibility and change the law on equal marriage in Northern Ireland, if that's what you would like to happen.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
