Closed ALLOW A REDUNDANT PEOPLE TO CLAIM BENIFITS

After losing my job and having to blow all my savings to satisfy the government to claim benefits to support myself until I become lucky enough to find another job to start supporting myself again I have decided to write this e-petion.

This petion is to look at allowing redundant people to claim benefits who have savings over 18k.

They have worked for this money which can be spent upon retirement or used as a small income for the interest generated.

Why should they be forced to BLOW this money to claim benefits? They have no choice but to even though they would rather be working for more money than claiming less for doing nothing.

Shouldn't the government be encouraging us to save more money?

18k is simply not enough to live on when you have no income at all so why are people not allowed to claim jsa and council tax benefit until they can support themselves again?
