Rejected petition Make the UK Parliament change the law on equal marriage in Northern Ireland

The Northern Ireland assembly have a responsibility to make marriage legal to everyone in the UK, including those in the LGBT community.

More details

The DUP has formed a coalition pact with the Conservative government and so if they are part of the UK government, who are actively debating on UK issues, why can’t UK citizens have a say in equal marriage in Northern Ireland.

If the Conservative Party are truly in favour of equal marriage then they will take back this responsibility and change the law on equal marriage in Northern Ireland.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

Marriage is a devolved matter in Northern Ireland. That means that it is the responsibility of the Northern Ireland Assembly.

You could start a new petition calling on the UK Government and Parliament to take back this responsibility and change the law on equal marriage in Northern Ireland, if that's what you would like to happen.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
