Closed petition Review the effectiveness of the outdated Child Destruction legislation
Closed on
In June 2015 I was a victim of a violent assault during my 8th month of pregnancy. One of the two males who attacked me was the guy who got me pregnant. Unfortunately, this resulted in me giving birth to a stillborn baby boy Joel.
The Child Destruction legislation was introduced in 1929 as part of the Infant Life Act, to tackle late-term backstreet abortions. In modern times - though rarely used - the legislation has been used to convict perpetrators who have used violence with the intent to harm pregnant women whose babies are capable of living outside the mother's womb.
Due to the complexities of the law, there have been a number of inconsistencies when it comes to prosecuting and sentencing perpetrators.
