Rejected petition Reverse the decision to make the new blue British Passport overseas

Franco-Dutch firm Gemalto has been awarded the contract for the new blue British Passport.

We call on the Government to reverse this decision, and award the contract to a UK supplier instead - as the French do with their own passports, bypassing EU tendering rules based on "national security"

More details

On 22nd March it was announced by De La Rue UK, the current supplier, that Franco-Dutch firm Gemalto had been awarded the £490m contract for the new blue British Passport.

Whilst Gemalto claim up to 70 jobs could be created in their Fareham UK plant, De La Rue have four sites in the UK, and employ over 600 staff at their Gateshead plant alone.

Many UK jobs may now be at risk.

We call on the Government to reverse this perverse decision, and award a BRITISH firm the BRITISH passport contract.
