Rejected petition Support the right of the Catalan people to hold a referendum on independence.

The Spanish government has repeatedly refused the right of the Catalan people to hold an independence referendum. It has furthermore engaged in excessive measures against the independence movement including attacking civilians, jailing activists and issuing arrest warrants.

More details

The Spanish State has violated Article 1 of the UN Charter and of the ICCPR and ICCPR which respect the rights of nations for self-determination.
It has also violated Articles 10 and 11 of the ECHR and Articles 19 and 20 of the UDHR which guarantee freedom of expression and assembly.
We therefore urge HM government to condemn the Spanish government's actions and support the right of the Catalan people to hold a referendum on independence.
