Rejected petition For The government to bring in new rules to govern the use of CCTV
For The government
to bring in new rules - laws
to govern
the use of private CCTV
being used to film others
Making sure that private
CCTV is only used
On a person's house or property
And Not to be used
to intimidate
and film and record
others
Away from their properties
More details
I strongly believe that CCTV
should not be used to film
and record to intimidate
and stalk or harass
anybody
Or
To breach ones
human rights
of privacy
I believe the law
needs to be changed
so this becomes a criminal offence
using CCTV in such ways
This petition was rejected
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. Cameras being deliberately trained on areas outside an individual’s property can amount to harassment and potentially give rise to prosecution under the Public Order Act or Protection from Harassment Act. The use of CCTV in certain circumstances can also be seen as an infringement on privacy under the Human Rights Act 1988. Stalking is already a criminal offence.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do - for example, you could call for there to be tougher enforcement or harsher penalties for this offence.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
