Rejected petition Urge the end of the Yulin Dog Meat Festival

On the 21st June will be the start of another year of the Yulin Dog Meat Festival. This is an annual celebration held in Yulin, Guangxi, China, during the summer in which festival goers eat dog meat and lychees. The festival lasts for 10 days where 10,000–15,000 dogs are tortured for consumption.

More details

This festival is one which not many people know about. In China extreme breeding and maltreatment face dogs in the run up and aftermath of the festival. There are groups who are fighting for a change and rescuing dogs from this fate (please see https://www.instagram.com/slaughterhouse_survivors). How are we supposed to fight for the protection of wild animals like lions and tigers across the world when we do this to an animal we call ‘mans best friend’?
