Rejected petition Save a 100 year old tree from being cut down due to health and safety
A school has won its battle to cut down a 100-year-old tree partially because of h&s concerns about chestnuts falling in the playground
St John's Primary School in Knaphill.
More details
St John's Primary School in Knaphill said in planning documents it had been forced to frequently close areas of the playground for more than an hour during autumn "to ensure the health and safety of the children" by sweeping away chestnuts.
The school's head teacher, Sarah May, also complained about "very slippery" fallen leaves, which she said a member of staff had injured themselves on, and bird droppings having to be cleaned from equipment.
