Whips are officials in a Political Party whose main purpose is to ensure MPs vote according to Party policy.
In reality this means voting in accordance with the line taken by the party leader.
The role of whips should be phased out and MPs should be allowed to vote in accordance with what they believe to be in the best interests of the electorate.
