Rejected petition To make public transport in the UK at an affordable and fixed price for everyone

Currently, public buses are priced extortionately high and need reducing. Seniors get free transport on buses, while everyone else pays over the odds for the same service. Some companies charge £1 for any U18's journey but some charge as much as £4.30 for a 5-6 mile trip. this must be stopped.

More details

£1 journey is on a Go-Northeast bus.
£4.30 is on an Arriva service in County Durham.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

Bus fares are not set by the UK Government. Local bus operators (bus companies) are free to set their own fares. However, local transport authorities (usually local councils) have the power to set maximum fares in some circumstances.

If you would like bus fares in your local area to be lower, you could raise this with your local council. You can find out who your local councillor is here:

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
