This petition was submitted during the 2017-2019 parliament
Rejected petition Allow UK citizens to marry in gardens, outside spaces etc.
In most countries, people can marry wherever they like as long as they have a minister / celebrant who has the correct licence.
UK laws are outdated and do not allow for people to marry in their own gardens, places of special meaning to them etc.
More details
If you search online, there are numerous articles and blogs saying that the laws are outdated and a change is being considered. However, nothing has changed.
This petition was rejected
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Petitions need to call on the UK Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
People in Scotland and Northern Ireland can already get married outdoors, so we're not sure what further action you'd like.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do. For example, you could start a new petition asking the UK Government and Parliament to make it legal for people to marry outdoors in England and Wales.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
