Rejected petition Abolish third party contributions for residents in full time private care.
Private care homes that cost more than local authority ones require a third party contribution for example, a family member or friend
More details
Many residents have already sold their homes to pay for their care. Once money has run out the local authority will only pay up to £555.00 a week for care but this includes Money from the residents state pension of around £146.00. A third party can be liable for paying the short fall cost of care which can be up £500 a week.
Example. Mrs X assessed contribution £146.83
County Council Contribution £409.13
Third party contribution £389.04
Full cost of care pw £945.00

Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. In particular, we're not sure whether you want local authorities to pay the full cost of care, or whether you want the Government to cap how much private care homes can charge, so that third party contributions are not necessary.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
