Legal aid has strict criteria making it difficult unless on benefits to get free representation when convicted of a crime. The criteria should be changed allowing anyone the right to have legal aid for the appeal process regardless of people earnings.

People that are wrongfully convicted have no chance of appeal unless they pay for representation and this can be an average cost of £5000. Most people in the United Kingdom are denied the chance due to criteria. If household income is less than £40,000 a year people should have the right to legal aid and appeals
