The RAF recognises the historical significance of RAF Scampton. However, it is in a poor state of repair and would require considerable investment which would not be the best use of public money.

In November 2016 the MOD published ‘A Better Defence Estate’, outlining how the Department will deliver an estate optimised to support Defence capabilities, outputs and communities both now and in the future. Delivering the strategy is a priority for the MOD, and the Department remains committed to investing £4Bn to create a smaller, more modern and capability-focused estate between now and 2040.

Nonetheless, the MOD recognises that RAF Scampton is a site of historical significance and will work with any new owners to deliver a long-term sustainable solution for preserving the important heritage, including consideration of the future of the Station’s Heritage Centre.
