Rejected petition Urge UK Government To Break Silence on China's Internment Camps aimed at Uyghurs
Starting in 2017, Chinese government accelerated their establishment of so-called “re-education” camps in East Turkestan (aka Xinjiang) targeting mainly Uyghurs and other ethnic people. UN said China held 1 million Uyghurs in concentration camps and another 2 million in “open re-education centres”.
More details
However, the detainees in such internment camps included professors in the local universities, successful businessman, well known musicians and sportsman too. So, it is hard to define the terminology of 'extremism' in China as the contributions and loyalty of the above mentioned professionals were highly acknowledged by the local government until 2017. Surely, China is committing a genocide on Uyghurs.
