Petition Review Drink/Drug driving laws and sentencing for offenders.
Recently a man was sentenced to just 4 years in prison for killing a mother of 4 whilst over the prescribed limit for both alcohol and cocaine.
The offender in this instance had already served a disqualification for being over the limits.
More details
Current sentences for causing death or serious injury whilst over the prescribed limit are unfairly lenient.
Multiple convictions for over the prescribed limit should carry a lifetime driving ban.
Failure to provide a specimen - This is currently an easier option to hide the amount of alcohol in a persons’ system. It’s loophole which often results in a more lenient disqualification as intoxication levels cannot be established, this should be a mandatory 5 year disqualification.
