Rejected petition Establish a government inquiry into the existence of God
More details
Whilst accepting and acknowledging the depth and sincerity of religious belief in the world, it seems that there is little, if any, credible evidence for a god or gods.
We therefore request that the Government establishes a formally constituted inquiry involving the scientific, religious and other communities as appropriate, to investigate the existence of god.
The inquiry should look for empirical evidence of god in line with the widely recognised principles of scientific enquiry and research.
If there is no such empirical evidence, the inquiry should also consider whether the extent and depth of religious belief provides credible evidence for a god or whether there are other psychological, social or other phenomena which better explain peoples' beliefs and experience of god.
