Rejected petition Ban Bruno Tonioli from prime time TV

More details

I would like the government to ban Bruno Tonioli from appearing on prime time TV - particularly Strictly Come Dancing. His over the top behavior is lewd, lecherous and offensive, especially on a family show. His drooling over male celebrities is better suited to late night TV and he should be removed from an early evening slot.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

It is a long-standing principle that the Government does not interfere in programme matters, either on arrangements for scheduling or on content. It is important to maintain the principle of freedom of expression which political interference could undermine.

Ofcom, the BBC Trust and S4C are independent of the Government and responsible for safeguarding the public interest in broadcasting. They set out the rules and guidance with which broadcasters must comply. Within this framework, it is the broadcasters’ job to make judgements about what individual programmes should contain.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
